Cabot Circus has scooped an impressive haul of awards since it opened. Check out the full list below:
REGENERATION SCHEME OF THE YEAR 2009
The Insider Property Awards judges voted Cabot Circus as the regeneration scheme of the year for the South West. The judges commented "Regeneration schemes should be measured by the change they bring, and Cabot Circus has delivered. It has really transformed the city, giving it a new centre and creating thousands of jobs."
MAPIC EG RETAIL AWARD 2008
To recognise its excellence in retail property, Cabot Circus has recently beaten an international shortlist to win the coveted Best Shopping Centre of the Year award at the prestigious MAPIC EG Retail Awards.
An international panel of experts praised the seamless integration of Cabot Circus into the city centre and the positive impact the development has had on Bristol, commenting:
“It has changed the entire city and for one shopping centre to do that is quite an achievement.”
BRITISH COUNCIL of SHOPPING CENTRES SUPREME GOLD 2008
The BCSC Supreme Gold Award is one of the retail and leisure industry’s highest accolades. Cabot Circus is delighted to be this year’s winner. The award is given by the BCSC jury to the project they consider to the best of all schemes submitted and the one that has moved the industry forward most during the year. Cabot Circus fought off stiff competition from Victoria Square, Belfast and Highcross Leicester.
According to the BCSC judges: “the attention to detail throughout the scheme is exemplary and is seen in the design detailing, the artwork, the shop fronts and the customer facilities.”
BCSC GOLD 2008
Cabot Circus was also jointly awarded a BCSC Gold for the best ‘In Town Retail Scheme of more than 30,000 square feet.’
BREEAM
Cabot Circus is the first major shopping centre to be awarded a score of “excellent” under the BREEAM scheme – construction’s highest environmental accolade. It won this prestigious award through using locally sourced materials wherever possible, recycling a high percentage of its materials and having 70% of its construction workers living within 25 miles. Key considerations to address climate change included;
- Natural ventilation
- Use of high efficiency lamps and intelligent lighting controls
- Rain water harvesting, serving public WC’s and irrigation points
- Exceeding building regulations on insulation requirements
THE EUROPEAN STANDARD PARKING AWARD 2008
Cabot Circus has been awarded The European Standard Parking Award – this award has been newly created to improve the image of parking in multi-storey car parks and as part of instituting a European Standard for safety and customer friendliness.
PARK MARK®
The Park Mark® has recently been awarded to Cabot Circus. This is an important award introduced by the Association of Chief Police Officers to reduce crime in parking facilities.
STRUCTURAL STEEL DESIGN AWARD 2009
Cabot Circus roof was awarded with the 2009 Structural Steel Design Award at London’s Science Museum
The judge’s commented
“The mixed styles of this retail development are unified by a series of spectacular glazed roofs in various shell and vaulted forms. The structural design is an intelligent re-engineering of the initial concept. By rationalising the geometry and detailing for maximum repetition, the fabrication, erection and glazing were all simplified. Design and execution of very high quality”.
